Court Correspondent A Court of Dhaka refixed August 30 yesterday for hearing of embezzlement charges against BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, her elder son and four other accused persons of Zia Orphanage Trust case. Senior Metropolitan Special Judge of Dhaka ANM Bashirullah passed the order in absence of all accused including the former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia other X-two accused persons are former MP Kazi Salimul Haque and businessman Sharfuddin Ahmed, while other two accused former Principal Secretary Dr. Kamal Uddin Siddiqui and former President Ziaur Rahman’s nephew Mominur Rahman are at large.

Mid-term review of budget implementation in Dec

BSS, Dhaka The Finance Ministry has prepared a list of activities to monitor the budget implementation process and ensure timely execution of the fiscal measurers. The ministry will also have a mid-term review on the implementation process of the fiscal measures in December this year and will publish a report on the progress in achieving budgetary targets. “We have chalked out a list of activities for achieving timely the targets of the Budget for the current financial year,” Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith told a discussion on budget implementation held in the city on Wednesday.

Hang the sell-by date: just eat and enjoy

Made a cracking lasagne on Sunday. The cheese was several weeks old, the parsley so wilted it was borderline slimey, the tomatoes needed big mouldy bits cut off and the cream was ten days beyond its sell-by date. The mince was ... well, I should really have cooked it midweek, but it was only a little bit grey.

When a fistful of dollars is not enough

On Thursday nights the “Duck and Cover”, the improvised bar in the grounds of Maude House (home of the British military presence in the city), used to host Baghdad’s finest, and perhaps only, “pub quiz”.
