Feinstein plays preservationist for American musical history

When Michael Feinstein was almost too small to climb onto the bench, he pulled himself up to the family piano and started to play. The Feinstein home in Columbus, Ohio, was always full of popular music — his father sang; his mother was an amateur tap dancer — and little Michael somehow knew just how to place his fingers to create those same notes and chords.

A Call For Papers: “Mormonism in Cultural Context”

The friends and former students of Professor Richard Lyman Bushman invite submissions for a conference, on the occasion of his 80th birthday, to be held June 18, 2011, at the Springville Art Museum in Springville, Utah. The summer seminars led by Professor Bushman beginning in 1997 pursued the theme of “Joseph Smith and His Times.” Participants were asked to connect the Mormon prophet to the religions, philosophies, and cultural formations of his period. More recently the seminars have posed the same question for Mormonism as a whole

Tiffany Wins Britain’s Next Top Model 2010

I love watching English TV on my spare time and lately Britain’s Next Top Model 2010 was on. I haven’t had a chance to watch the last episode but rumor is that Tiffany is the winner. L to R: Elle MacPherson & Tiffany for Britain’s Next Top Model 2010 On the show Tiffany had the most versatile looks and seemed the easiest to work with as a model and one with the best attitude.  Well done Tiff & Congrats! BTW have you seen a more beautiful 47ish (or 40 something:) woman than Elle MacPherson

Have You Ever Seen A Prettier Green?

I dare say you have not!  :-) Martha Stewart Living from Home Depot.  Color:  Dill Once again, I’m having trouble getting a picture that accurately shows the color, but if you’re looking for a really earthy green with a touch of taupe, this one is gorgeous. By the way, I had it color matched in Kelly-Moore interior alkyd satin enamel.  When painting cabinets, it’s the only paint I use.

Halloween plays a trick on Sabbath observance

photo credit Rasmus Thomsen In October a young kid’s fancy swiftly turns to thoughts of treats. With four young kids in our home, you can guess what’s on our minds lately. At our house we celebrate a thoroughly domesticated Halloween, with no concerns about satanism or sugar, just plenty of candy corn and friendly ghosts and homely, homemade costumes
