It was Sunday evening, our baby was sleepy as we lifted him out of the bath and I noticed the mark under his tummy button. But he’d been running round London Zoo with his brothers and sister and I thought he must have knocked himself as he raced from the gorillas to the flamingos.

The Pope is right about the threat to freedom

There are times when human rights become human wrongs. This happens when rights become more than a defence of human dignity, which is their proper sphere, and become instead a political ideology, relentlessly trampling down everything in their path. Magnolia Bakery to open cupcake bakery in Dubai

I saw this press release about New York’s famous Magnolia Bakery opening an outpost in Dubai and for a moment was like, “Is it April Fool’s Day?” Mainly because all the hype has been about their long-awaited Grand Central Station bakery (opening in late February is the latest word) and their Los Angeles outpost (opening in April). Here’s the relevant part of the release: Magnolia Bakery, renowned for its old fashioned, freshly baked desserts, today announced the grand opening of its Dubai annex, the first such location outside of the United States. Through an exclusive territorial license agreement, the new bakery, located in the Bloomingdale’s home store within The Dubai Mall, will be managed and operated by Al Tayer Insignia, the luxury retail company of Al Tayer Group.
