Bailey’s Bedside Table:: Before & After

Do you remember this bedside table I bought at Goodwill for Bailey’s room? Yesterday, it underwent a bit of a transformation.  I started out by using my electric sander on all of the flat surfaces just to remove any rough areas and to give it some “tooth”.   I finished up the sanding by hand since there were so many grooves and details that couldn’t be reached with the electric sander.

Have You Ever Seen A Prettier Green?

I dare say you have not!  :-) Martha Stewart Living from Home Depot.  Color:  Dill Once again, I’m having trouble getting a picture that accurately shows the color, but if you’re looking for a really earthy green with a touch of taupe, this one is gorgeous. By the way, I had it color matched in Kelly-Moore interior alkyd satin enamel.  When painting cabinets, it’s the only paint I use.

J & A Master Bathroom:: Beautiful Glazed Walls

I don’t have all of the walls finished in J & A’s master bathroom. In fact, I did one wall, and wasn’t pleased with how it looked, so I painted over it and will start again tomorrow.  So as I was waiting for that wall to dry, I started on another one.  Once I got the hang of it, I really enjoyed the process! If you’ll remember, I’m trying to create a wall treatment similar to this Old World

Bailey’s Bedside Table:: A Change In Plans (and Some Painted Inspiration)

Remember just yesterday when I told you that one of the remaining projects in Bailey’s bedroom was to make a bedside table similar to (but larger than) the Ikea Trollsta side table?

One Project Down…593 To Go!

Okay, so maybe 593 is a bit of an exaggeration. But I’m happy to report that I was able to mark one of the projects off of my “to do” list this weekend. On Saturday, I headed south for a few hours, and finished up the Ikea KLOBO loveseat slipcover for Bailey’s bedroom.

Flooring Progress

My new flooring is no longer contained to the guest bedroom/office. It has now spread up the hallway to the front door, into about half of the family room, all of the eating area (except for the border edges), and into the kitchen. I still have to grout, but even without grout, it looks about 1000% better than the painted concrete.

D.I.Y. Project:: How To Cover A Lampshade

There are several ways to cover a lampshade.  Ask ten DIYers their technique, and you’ll get ten different answers. So here’s mine.  Note that this is the technique I use for covering plastic-lined lampshades.  If your lampshade is fabric on the inside, this won’t work. First, I remove any trim that is on the lampshade.  Also, if there’s a printed fabric adhered to the plastic liner, I remove

D.I.Y. Project:: How To Make A Book Wreath

I’ve gotten so far behind on writing up d.i.y. projects, so it’s time to play catch up!! It thought I’d start off today with a pretty easy (and cheap) one–the book wreath that I used in J & A’s master bedroom.  And please be so kind as to overlook the paint on my hands.  Let’s face it…my hands are always covered in something–paint, caulk, grout…something.  Manicures are wasted on me

J & A Master Bathroom:: And Massive Mirrors No More!

Happy Monday to you!! Last Friday, I made some progress on the vanity area in J & A’s master bathroom. It’s amazing what removing those massive mirrors did for room! It’s like the room was able to breathe a little. Okay, that sounds funny

J & A Master Bathroom:: And Moving On To Plan B

I have been so anxious to work on J & A’s master bathroom that I ripped all of the wallpaper down several weeks ago–way before I was even close to being finished with the bedroom. Literally, one day I dropped everything I was doing in the bedroom, marched right into the bathroom, and started ripping

The Scrapped Table Panels Make a Comeback

After working so hard on the panels for the original bedside table design in J & A’s bedroom, I just couldn’t bring myself to throw the things away. I mean, I really put a lot of time into those, but my original idea for them was a complete bust. So, I decided to reuse them, and they’ll be making a comeback in the master bathroom design…or somewhere.

Julia’s Kitchen:: Progress Updates and More About Fabrics

Julia’s kitchen remodel is coming along beautifully! I went over on Friday to have a look at the drapery fabric samples in the room, and while I was there I took a few pictures of the progress. As you can see, the crown molding above the cabinets has been painted black now.

Bailey’s Bold & Colorful Bedroom (a Virtual Room (re)Design)

Hip Products: Lucy Vanstone ceramics

I bought a gorgeous pottery beaker/vase with a crackle glaze interior at Biome last year and have been trying to find out more about the artist, Lucy Vanstone since then. I even visited Lucy’s Wheel Of Life studio in Brunswick Heads, NSW, but alas it was closed on the day of my visit.Luckily, the fabulous Shannon Fricke styled Lucy’s work in a November 2009 Country Style magazine article, and I

My Butcherblock Countertops Seven Months Later (and I Spy a Problem)

Well, it’s been seven months since I got my butcherblock countertops from Ikea. I still love them today just as much as when I first got them, and I’m still amazed at how they warmed up my kitchen.Remember what I had before?(This was taken when I was re-making and painting thecabinet doors, which is why they’re all missing.)That laminate countertop was standard apartment-grade cheapness.

Hip Products: Queen B Candles

I bought a Queen B beeswax candle from one of my favourite stores Biome last year and totally adored it – a sweet square votive in a delicate porcelain cup, and packaged in a lovely recycled cardboard box. It was simple and perfect.I’ve since found that Queen B has a range of great candles, all created with pure cotton wicks and 100% Australian beeswax, which means no parafin, no soy, and no palm

A Crazy Tale of a (Quite Unexpected) Kitchen Remodel

Remember these chairs that I showed you about six weeks ago?Well, let me tell you…this project has been one adventure after another.Initially, Julia called me because she had inherited her mother’s quintessential 1950s chrome/vinyl dining chairs and chrome/Formica dining table. She wanted to have them re-chromed, reupholstered, and re-Formica’d (sure, it’s a word!).
