India stumble to 213-8: Sachin’s 76 saves their blushes

BSS, Chittagong Bangladesh bowlers made Indians pay for their superficial remarks as Tigers made the world number one side India into submission on day one of the first Test at Zohur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium here on Sunday. The Indians were reeling at 213 for eight thanks to maestro Sachin Tendulkar’s unbeaten 76 to save their blushes at the close on the first day of the first Test against Bangladesh. Indian opener Virender Sehwag yesterday at a press meet termed Bangladesh as an ordinary side raising storm in local media.

Khaleda rejects Hasina’s success claim:It’s a communique between India and Awami League

Special Correspondent Leader of the Opposition and BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia yesterday demanded of the Prime Minister to make public the contents of all the agreements she signed with India during her recent visit to New Delhi. “What has been done during this visit was all in favour of India and against the interest of Bangladesh. It is 100 per cent success for India but extremely harmful for Bangladesh,” she said addressing a press conference at her Gulshan office

3 units of two power plants inoperative

Shamim Jahangir back from Chittagong Power Development Board (PDB) was forced to close down three units of two gas-fired power plants having capacity of 480 MW of electricity in Chittagong due to gas crisis. Two units of Raozan Power Plant and another of Shikalbaha Power Plant require gas 105 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd) to produce 480MW of electricity

DCC’s Clean Dhaka drive hits snag

Staff Reporter Dhaka City Corporation (DCC) finds it very difficult to cope with about 5000 tonnes of waste generated daily as its waste management system is backdated and slow. DCC, as it appears, has also so far failed to involve the city dwellers in its cleanliness drives due mainly to lack of motivation programmes.

Gas blocks issue: ConocoPhillips to sit with Petrobangla today

BSS, Dhaka Petrobnagla, the state-run oil and gas company will sit with USA-based oil company ConocoPhillips today to settle some issues that were unresolved in the first round of negotiation. According to an official source, during the first round of negotiation, the US-based company Conoco wanted 8 blocks, which was not approved by the Cabinet body

Schools help Kid’s Club wade through flood aftermath

A sprinkler malfunction has displaced 175 elementary and middle school students who participate in the Shawsheen Extended Day Kid’s Club after school programs. After a massive reorganization effort, SHED’s after school programs were cancelled just one day and are temporarily operating out of several public school buildings.

Andover firm’s effort earns record Brownsfield Tax Credit on cleanup

Cooperstown Environmental LLC, an environmental engineering consulting firm based in Andover that describes itself as the leading experts in the Brownfields Tax Credit program, recently announced that it had successfully earned a tax credit of more than $1.3 million on behalf of one of its clients. It believes this is the largest such credit ever granted.

Little feedback offered during open forum on town manager

The selectmen set aside time during their Jan. 4 meeting to get public feedback on Town Manager Buzz Stapczynski, but only one resident came to offer comment on the Monday after New Year’s Day. Selectmen will decide this winter whether to reappoint Stapczynski, Andover’s town manager since 2000, or look for someone new.
