DU Correspondent A student of Dhaka University died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Wednesday morning following factional clash among Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activists in the early hours of Tuesday. The dead student, Abu Bakar Siddique, a third year student of the Department of Islamic History and Culture and resident of Room No-404 of Sir AF Rahman Hall, succumbed to his injuries at about 9:20am after fighting for life for more than 29 hours. Receiving information of his death, his fellow activists staged demonstration on the university campus and went on rampage.

UNB, Dhaka Bangladesh won another gold in men’s team event of the 10m Air Rifle in the 11th South Asian Games at the National Shooting Complex here on Wednesday. Bangladesh shooting team comprising Asif Hossain Khan (596), Shovon Chowdhury (591) and Abdullah-Hel-Baki (588) secured gold in the team event scoring total 1775 points out of 1800. Indian team consisting of Imran Hasan (594), Satyender (588) and Dhirender Singh Jamwal (582) grabbed the silver scoring 1764 points.

UNB, Dhaka Visiting Canadian MP and former minister Maria Minna here yesterday (Wednesday) could not precisely say whether or not the Bangabandhu’s convicted killer Nur Chowdhury would be sent back to Bangladesh from Canada. Minna, former Minister for International Cooperation, at a press conference at the Jatiya Press Club, said she heard that Nur has filed an appeal, which is going through court to grant his status as a refugee.

Staff Reporter A bench of the High Court (HC) yesterday summarily dismissed a writ petition filed challenging a Rajuk notice asking the authorities of Jamuna Future Park (JFP), a 10-storey shopping complex, to demolish its unauthorised top four floors. After six-day hearing on the writ petition, the bench comprising Justice AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury and Justice Borhanuddin, observing the writ petition as ‘not maintainable’ rejected it. The court said that there were disputed questions of fact in the writ petition.
