Should You Buy Your Child a Car For Graduation?

Associated Press Graduation means a new car for some kids. Whenever I read about parents who buy their children a major gift — such as a car for graduation — an old memory pops into my head. A longtime friend, who grew up in poverty but later made a small fortune as a hard-working adult, gave his two children everything he’d wanted as a kid – new sports cars and expensive clothes and vacations.

This ipsy-dipsy quango won’t save democracy

The House of Commons is in danger of cutting its own constitutional throat, but the Clerk of the House is trying to stop them. The clerk is Malcolm Jack, a man of scholarship and courage who is the ultimate referee on all constitutional questions which affect the Commons. His core duty is to advise the House, its Speaker, the committees and MPs on the practice and procedure of the House, and its rights.

RIP Michael Jackson: your passing has shown the power of Twitter

There was Michael Jackson, milling around somewhere at the back of my consciousness in a box labelled “top tunes, disturbed person, poor old thing”, and I’d gone out to supper last Thursday and came back at about 11pm, made a cup of tea and logged on to Twitter, as you do, whereupon I found hundreds of people were posting about Jackson being taken to hospital, being in a coma, possibly being dead.

Lighten up, Auntie, and ditch the leaden middle managers

I was a little bit disappointed by those expenses charged by BBC executives and revealed by the corporation last week in another of those sudden outbursts of “openness and transparency”. I had hoped we might be able to gather once more around the guillotine like a tricoteuse, finishing off the sweater we started with the bankers and which now has 12 sleeves as a consequence of our ghastly politicians

Britannia shrivels under Gordon Brown

At least the mullahs still take Britain seriously. While the rest of the world has been laughing at our expenses scandal, last week Manochehr Mottaki, Iran’s foreign minister, paid us the highest diplomatic compliment – that of believing in our malevolent powers. Mottaki blames the democratic Twitter revolution on the activities of dozens of James Bonds flown in by MI6 from London

Michael Jackson’s death unsolved after autopsy

Reuters, Los Angeles Doctors conducted an autopsy on the body of Michael Jackson on Friday but could not immediately determine what killed the “King of Pop,” amid reports he had been injected with a narcotic painkiller shortly before collapsing. Jackson was in full cardiac arrest when paramedics arrived at his rented mansion in the Holmby Hills neighborhood of Los Angeles on Thursday afternoon, with his personal physician trying desperately to revive him. The 50-year-old pop superstar was rushed to nearby UCLA Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead without regaining consciousness.

REB blamed for promoting environment polluters

Rafiqul Islam Azad The state-owned Rural Electrification Board (REB), the power distribution agency entrusted with electricity supply in rural areas, is alleged to have been promoting the environment polluters ignoring the social security and violating relevant laws and regulations. The REB authorities have been allowing polluter private firms to participate in the bidding for supplying equipment, sources in the REB said. Ironically, the REB itself has been violating its own rule in dealing with the tender processes.

(Bitter) Sweet Relief, Daddy’s Day, Swim Report, Potty World

Anywho, the summer heat coupled with my swelling belly everything made it impossible to take my ring off later that day.  And the next day.  And the next.  A m

Today I finished a proper refashion and I’m excited to get back to doing more! Here’s the original shirt: And here’s the final dress. It’s a little big, but I’m hoping that she’ll grow into it by the end of summer.
