A French motor that isn’t a runaway success

I’m still in the South of France but thinking I’d better write a column for you from here rather than take the week off as I had planned, otherwise The Times will fire up some eager young Shadow Cabinet minister as a replacement, to plug the hole with his outline for an overhaul of the recycling laws as they relate to kitchen compost (non-proteinous) or something, and you’ll all be so bored you’ll cancel your subscriptions and there’ll be no readers left for me to write for when I get home.

Life’s Little Roadmap

Cleaning up my computer last night, I discovered a letter I’d written for a friend of mine on the o ccasion of her eighteenth birthday.  I was going to slip it inside her card but never did because, in the end, I thought it a bit corny.  Looking at it now, I realise it’s not corny, it’s true.  So here it is, Elle, I hope you’re reading! Harry Patch’s victory was to die in his bed

A cup of exquisitely flavored freshly brewed coffee is what most people crave for everyday, be it in the morning, afternoon or at nighttime.  It doesn’t matter if it’s an iced coffee with mocha, super hot latte ladened with vanilla, a foamy cappuccino, or just a plain cup of drip java.  It could not compare to any other beverages out there.  Since we are talking about coffee now, perhaps you would want to try out the wonderful coffee gift baskets being sold on the web which are really easy on th

Books and books and books and….

I’ve not been writing too much this past week but that’s because I have been reading loads – as the Gods of all Gifts Secondhand have been smiling down on me with some remarkable finds in my local charity shops. First up was Spiral off Western road, one of my favourite places for a Saturday morning browse. Spread out over three adjoining rooms trailing down Buckingham Road, and a veritable Santa’s Grotto for nick nacks and furniture, Spiral has an eclectic range of books and magazines
