Origin of the Name The “Hooker Emerald Brooch” gets its name from the one of its owner piece of jewelry Janet Annenberg Hooker, who donated the 75-carat, emerald brooch set with diamonds, to the Smithsonian Institution, in 1977. Characteristics of the Gemstone The Hooker Emerald is a 75.47-carat, square emerald-cut gemstone with a large table, good color, clarity and transparency. The emerald is of Colombian origin that why the characteristic color of the stone is deep grass-green color; it is presently set as the centerpiece of a brooch, in which it is surrounded by a platinum framework mounded with a total of 109 smaller round brilliant-cut diamonds of different sizes arranged in a symmetrical pattern
