Great Games for the Couch Quaterback

For diehard football fans summer is a brutal time of year. EA Sports certainly feels for you and they do their best to scratch that football itch with the summer release of two must-have football games.  Yesterday, EA released NCAA Football 10 (Xbox360, PSP, PS2, and PS3), and next month, August 14th marks the arrival date for the rabidly anticipated Madden NFL 10 . NCAA Football 10 is a noted improvement of their already excellent college football franchise.

Money won’t buy you love. Or good marriages

Love and marriage, go together like a carriage and horse. Is that quite right? Does marriage plus a £20-a-week tax break equal love? Because if you could buy the quality that makes stable families, you would certainly buy love, not marriage. Where love and support are abundant, a family will flourish. Where they are absent, it will not.

The Americans know this will end in schism

In the slow-moving train crash of international Anglicanism, a decision taken in California has finally brought a large coach off the rails altogether. The House of Bishops of the Episcopal Church (TEC) in the United States has voted decisively to allow in principle the appointment, to all orders of ministry, of persons in active same-sex relationships

Pope Benedict is the man on the money

When Cardinal Ratzinger was elected Pope, his strengths and weaknesses seemed clear. Here was an eminent theologian, philosopher and guardian of Christian truth, but a man unlikely to make the Church’s message relevant to the world today. How simplistic this now looks in the light of his third encyclical, in which Pope Benedict XVI confronts head-on the financial crisis that has rocked the world.

This Bill is a panic measure in a tarnished age

I had the good fortune to see the House of Commons in the evening of its golden age in 1954. Winston Churchill was Prime Minister; Clement Attlee was Leader of the Opposition; Rab Butler was Chancellor of the Exchequer; Hugh Gaitskell was Shadow Chancellor; Nye Bevan was a leading Labour speaker; Herbert Morrison was Shadow Leader of the House; Anthony Eden was Foreign Secretary. Most of these men had worked together in the victorious wartime coalition and had respect and often affection for each other.

Deb’s Super-Duper SPECIAL Reading: The Cats; The Flame- Reversed; The Letter- Reversed

Uh-duh!  Moments of clarity come (for ourselves and others) thanks to the sacrifices we’ve made up until now.  Some really stupid moments come, too.  This will be a week in which we (pay attention Aries , Leo and Sagittarius ) will have to put a muzzle on our tempers.  However, on the bright side, we’ll have the support we need, and so any “bad” news we receive will be expected and, therefore, easier on the nerves than usual. I’ve drawn three cards from the ol’ deck, tonight.  Because I f

Choosing unusual and creative presents for family members, friends and business colleagues can be a challenging but rewarding experience. One sure way to remind the people in your life how special they are to you is by presenting them with personalized gifts. Vintage Creepy Doll Wrapping Paper.

First I should tell you that I am not making this up.   I am not.  I posted the blog entry about creepy dolls and my dad’s naked mannequin on Wednesday night.  The very next day (which was yesterday), I stopped at a garage sale on my way home from work.  It was a very awesome garage sale.  The people were clearing out their grandma’s estate and Grandma had lots of stuff .  What made it even better was that the sellers were in the business to get rid of lots of stuff .  So I made out like a ba

Youth and age are no longer strictly divided

I was chatting to a bunch of twentysomethings recently about which women they admired. “I’m a big Judi Dench person,” said one. Another proclaimed a passion for Helen Mirren. There was much warm agreement. But, I protested, these dames could be your grandmas. What about — I dunno — Scarlett Johansson? Well, they liked to see what she wore. But Helen and Judi had presence, dignity, were above the celebrity fray.

And lo, Dave Moses had a burning bush crisis

Tony Blair won his general election in 1997 by persuading us that he was Jesus. Nobody remembers what the policies were, all we dimly recall is that he got angry when people said he didn’t have any, insisted that he was not going to get into details, and promised to let us know what the policies were later. And we’re still waiting. Some of us feel a little bit let down. We still think that he was Jesus, but in a bad way. In the wishy-washy, open-toed, passive-aggressive, turn-the-other- cheek, can’t-touch-me-guv-I’m-with- The-Big-Guy way. The Messiah, but irritating.

Zoom in to this small tale that spells defeat

Sometimes, you have to listen to the mountains.” This was quoted to us journalists in Kabul by Brigadier-General Walter Givehan of the US Forces in Afghanistan, with pride. He uses it as part of his mission statement: a reminder, he said, always to be alert to one’s environment and ready to hear the lessons it may teach.

Using Natural SKincare to combat Allergies & Eczema

All my life I have been a girl of self indulgence. I just loved baths, creams and body sprays, with one major problem, I was severely allergic to those chemical laden products, and was left using so called pure soaps that still left me with dry skin that was often accompanied by a rash. With a chemistry and nursing background, I soon learned enough about skin conditions and the chemical makeup of some of those product out on the market.

Are you giving with an Open Hand

For the past 40 days, I’ve had a great opportunity to encourage a friend in writing every morning.  This process will continue for 10 more days.  Today, I woke up with the prescence of God and just felt compelled to share day 40.  I pray that you are blessed by the reading of it just as much as I was blessed by the revelationWhen you life is a gift, it is your appointed time to give God the glory.  No matter what stage you may find yourself to be in, keep your hands open and up.  Enter every opp

Friday Fun: Babies on Skates

It’s a summer Friday and thus The Juggle turns away from the stresses of the daily grind and ponders “babies on skates.” The term was the most searched on Google on Thursday morning, when folks started hunting for this Evian commercial , which features babies wheeling around to the hip-hop classic “Rapper’s Delight.” The commercial joins the baby commercial lexicon, along with the E-Trade baby (nearly 3 million views). These sorts of videos have been a popular Web thing since the ’90s when this video of a digitally rendered dancing baby was emailed around and eventually was used on the television show Ally McBeal.

Be like the plinth people: not set in stone

The Trafalgar Square fourth plinth project didn’t start that well. It got hijacked before it began — by an anti-smoking campaigner of all things. That’s a bit retro, isn’t it? Who’s next? The suffragettes? I guess they’d instinctively head for the plinth next door, to throw themselves in front of King George IV’s horse.

Obama’s direct line to the heart of Africa

You need only read the heartrending Africa chapters of Dreams from My Father to realise that Barack Obama gets Africa. He struggles with his own feuding Kenyan family, where poorer members scrounge off richer ones, and he agonises over why this continent, full of smart, energetic people and rich in resources cannot get its act together. His own catchphrase, “Yes We Can”, seems to be answered by Africa’s, “But We Don’t”
