2010 shaping up for M-Health initiatives

It may still be early days for M-Health to provide a consistent (and significant) revenue stream to operators, but don’t write it off just yet- the launch by Vodafone’s CEO Vittorio Colao of its M-Health business unit could be coming at a time when the mobile health market just begins to gain some traction. Simple M-Health

Era ends as EU Commissioner Reding moves on

Mention the word regulation, particulary in the context of the European Union, and people might think of expensive pieces of unnecessary legislation that hinder rather than helps businesses and individuals. In the case of the telecommunications sector, though, it has served the end-user rather well, though the likes of Vodafone, T-Mobile and Telefonica O2 might smart

Apps Store Ecozones to help push Green App Download Volumes to 400m by 2014

The volume of green application downloads to mobile handsets could exceed 400m by 2014, according to our new report on green mobile handsets. The report suggested that one of the key drivers would be high-profile “ecozones” – areas dedicated to green-themed mobile content and apps  – within operator and OEM application stores. A scenario-based approach to modelling green

How To Choose Wine Cooler Refrigerator

by Anne Durrell Before you make your decision on purchasing a wine cooler refrigerator, there are a few things that you need to take into consideration, even though buying a wine cooler can be easy. First, you have to decide how many wine bottles you need to store in your wine refrigerator. Another thing, you will need to think about where you will store your wine cooler refrigerator in your home, and of course, you also need to assess your budget before you purchase.

The Wheel of Fate is Turning….

2 Decades…damn that sucks As of 12 am this morning I have officially been alive for 2 decades and it feels grosser and more depressing than anything I have ever experienced.  I no longer have the excuse of being a teenager and now all of a sudden, after never acting or regarding myself any older than ~15, have to become responsible and adult-like.  This is a feeling I’m not and don’t really want to get used to, but society demands it so I hopefully will grow up. Well if anything good came

Little Philanthropists: Hosting a Charitable Birthday Party

Am I alone in dreading all the packaged toys my children receive from their (well meaning) friends?  I try to suggest art supplies or other items which will actually get used instead of being discarded after a week of play, but we still end up with a lot of stuff. Personally, I really like the idea of hosting charitable birthday parties . After much brainstorming, we’ve come up with a few charitable parties to host with friends (and then have a family party with a few gifts).  This way, our

What You Need To Know About Giving A Bridegroom Speech

by Amy Bartlett Now that the time is fast approaching and your wedding day is just around the corner, it is time you sat down and put some thought into your bridegroom speech that you need to give at the reception. Tradition for most cultures dictates that the bridegroom gives his speech right after that of the father of the bride, so you should have something in mind that you would like to say and just how much you want to include. Most importantly the biggest factor in any speech is the op

Peacocking

Modeled after the mating ritual of the male peafowl (peacock) of flaring its feathers to generate interest from the female peafowl (peahen), by flaunting a few pieces of provocative jewelry or clothing, men can create a similar effect.  It has come to my attention that peacocking is a great way to become noticed by the opposite gender. look at me! hey! look at me! Women have been doing this for years by decorating themselves with lavish clothing and expensive jewelry, but only until recent, men have usually shied away from this act deeming it effeminate.  By overcoming the fear of social judgment, some men have discovered that by adorning themselves with a few fashionable pieces of jewelry, they too can become the center of attention.

bigger is better?

Okay, I have not posted in a while, but one thing about jewelry has been bugging me lately and I have to put it into words.  Why do women like big pieces of jewelry.  To me, it seems that once it reaches a certain size, it can look overly clunky and lose its spark or appeal. Now it is understood that more carat weight or more metal weight means the use of more material, which in turns makes it more expensive.  With that being said; economically, they are obviously more desirable.  But in terms of style, I feel a big ring or giant medallion is overly flashy and makes the wearer look tacky and tasteless.  It looks odd seeing a skinny girl with a ring that is bigger than the thickness of two fingers or a basketball player with small ears and HUGE studs.  Jewelry like clothes, should fit proportionally, but somewhere along the way the “perfect fit” became lost and bigger became better

Engagement Rings…the COMPLETE guide for guys

Okay, first off, I would like to say that this is not going to be one of those “how to buy an engagement ring” posts.  This post will be the “real deal.”  I work at a jewelry wholesale company that specializes in diamonds.  We mostly sell to retailers but we do occasionally sell to close friends and family members when they are getting married and help them with their needs.  With that being said, I will take you through the path that I would personally take when buying an engagement ring. There are a million sites out in the web to show you how to buy an engagement ring and rules to follow but those are all general guidelines with an overwhelming amount of options.  The more options there are, the more room for error, and the more room for error, the more room for being swindled.  If you follow my rules I can guarantee that you make a solid purchase without fearing that you may have been scammed

jewelry…luxury?

Being in a recession, it is tough to decide how to budget your earnings.  The first items that are automatically erased from “the list of necessities” are jewelry.  Now your probably thinking, “yea that’s about right,” after all u can’t eat it.  BUT if you think about it, jewelry lasts pretty much forever or until you lose it.  Especially if your a guy and you get a titanium steel reinforced indestructible…whatever.  Think of it as an investment.  I am sure that your girlfriend or boyfriend would not mind a nice present or just something to sharpen your look.  Looking good is always a wise investment in our world.  Also contrary to what a lot of girls think, guys do appreciate jewelry as gifts, but sometimes I feel like it will make me seem too effeminate to ask for one.  But a nice necklace, money clip, ring, or (if the guy has a piercing) some earrings. Since these items last so long, you can always pass it down to your kids or friends or even have it buried with you.  It is always nice to have a memento to remember your experiences or feelings.  Also the value of jewelry rarely goes down, especially if you have a diamond piece.  While prices for precious metals like gold, platinum, and silver fluctuate, the price of diamonds have been rising since the days of the great depression.  Investing something as concrete and indestructible as a diamond might not even be a bad idea.  After all..”diamonds are forever.” Tagged: boyfriend, diamond value, girlfriend, investment, jewelry, looking good, titanium

ear gauges

One thing that I’ve been seeing more and more of lately are ear gauges.  I once thought the stretching of one’s ear was a ritual performed by African and Native American tribes only to see it prevalent amongst teens and young adults.  Personally I cannot see the appeal in this style as stretching one’s earlobe or lip will leave huge holes and potential permanent damage and/or scarring. Native American woman Gross.  It hurts just looking at it but to think that people are willing to do it for no particular reason is beyond me.  Smaller gauges are ok, but once the ear is stretched far enough for a finger to poke through it, then it is way too much.  The type of people that pursue this type of look are either A.) self-mutilating masochists or B.) people that enjoy seeing others cringe.  Other than these few perks, the reasoning behind ear stretching is beyond me.  The possibility of your ears permanently staying as huge loops is a scary thought.  Although you WOULD be able to tie them in a knot or a bow, and throw it over your shoulder like a continental soldier…hmmmm more on that development in the future. If there are any other reasons for ear lobe stretching I would like to be enlightened, so please help me understand! two-in-one ring

So I was browsing jewelry for men and found that guys will usually wear jewelry as long as it is very bold, sophisticated, and INDESTRUCTIBLE.  That is why the trend for guy jewelry is usually titanium or other durable metals.  Unless you are a rapper, diamonds are not very fitting, but putting on a nice ring, chain, or earring can give you an edgy but refined look. This Ring from justmetal.com is both stylish and fun I found this ring on justmetal.com and I think it is one of their featured items because it is on the front page.  I must say it is pretty cool because of the fact that it is two rings combined into one and can be worn in a number of different ways.  Standing alone, both parts of the ring look nice and can be worn separately.  When combined it looks like a standard titanium ring.  This feature of separability (is that even a word?) is what makes gives this ring creative freedom.  It can be implemented into different styles and you can even give the other ring to your significant other (or just wear it on a chain if you think they will lose it).  A ring like this has endless possibilities, hell, you can even turn it into a weapon and find someone to fight (Xena perhaps?). Although men like to keep all their fashion accessories functional, i.e

death diamonds

Not to be confused with blood diamonds or conflict diamonds from africa, these diamonds are artificially created from your ashes.  I dont know about you, but this seems like a pretty sweet alternative than the typical burial or cremation.  If you think about it, after many generations, your family can collect each diamond and make a necklace or a bracelet out of all your deceased relatives.  This would be considered more of a family heirloom than any piece of jewelry in my opinion. The downside to these stones are that they would take quite a while to collect were you to start now, seeing how you have to wait for your relatives become deceased.  OR if you are sick enough, maybe, just maybe, you’ll be able to take some of them out and start a small collection.  Of course this is assuming they are not out to get you first…bwahahaha.

internet purchases

So, since starting this blog I am glad to announce that according to my stats I have had 3 people visit.  These are people who probably misclicked on a link OR they were brought here by FATE.  God wanted them to see this so they can think to themselves, what the hell?  In any case, my jewelry ramblings shall continue. I have been posting jewelry on ebay for my company and it is disastrous.  All jewelry posted on ebay seems cheap and it almost seems as though everything is being sold far less than cheap market pricing.  This allowed me to come to a couple of conclusions. sellers are LIARS subtle words make all the difference Jewelry sellers often boost the quality of their diamonds lying straight to the consumer’s faces about having grades of diamonds that are way beyond their actual ratings.  There are only a few certified Gemological Labs that are non-biased and grade diamonds according to a national standard.  Amongst these companies GIA (Gemological Institutes of America) is probably the most legitimate.  Their grading scale is very strict and they view all aspects of a diamond including the angles of the cut, depth, symmetry, and other standard four C’s measurements.  I would recommend when buying a diamond to always ask for certification from GIA.  Any jewelry company can and will make their own certifications which, of course, favor their own inventory

lost man in a world of jewelry

Being an average man the top of the list of conversation topics consists of girls, sports, and immaturely enough, poop.  The last thing I would talk about is jewelry.  Landing a job as an administrative assistant for a small jewelry wholesale company I realized there was a lot to be learned.  The “obvious” 4 Cs of a diamond was the first step for a newbie like me.  All pieces of jewelry look very similar to me and just finding out that two of pieces of jewelry that are comparable in style can have such a huge disparity in pricing truly boggles my mind.  After getting more and more exposure to the jewelry/diamond industry I found out there are so many things to consider when analyzing a piece of jewelry.  At the moment, I am just learning, but over time I hope to understand what girls see in, what I believe to be, stones and metals.
