Feinstein plays preservationist for American musical history

When Michael Feinstein was almost too small to climb onto the bench, he pulled himself up to the family piano and started to play. The Feinstein home in Columbus, Ohio, was always full of popular music — his father sang; his mother was an amateur tap dancer — and little Michael somehow knew just how to place his fingers to create those same notes and chords.

Roberts satisfies with emotional performance in ‘Eat, Pray, Love’

Liz Gilbert is the type of character I am drawn to in real life, or in the case of “Eat Pray Love,” a person whom I truly admire from a distance. Based on Gilbert’s memoir, “Eat Pray Love” is, at its simplest, the story of one woman’s search for herself.

Dear Abby: Aging parents’ go-it-alone attitude can be dangerous

Dear Abby: My parents are both in their 80s, and I try to stay in touch with them as often as possible. Unfortunately, one issue I cannot get through to them is when to call 911 for help. Example: If Mom trips and falls, Dad needs to call 911 rather than struggle to help her up.

A Q&A with zombie movie master George Romero

For some audiences, it’s a pure nightmare transferred to the screen, an apocalyptic vision of a future where the dead come back to life and feed on the living. For others, the thrill of watching the undead against the living is sheer, bloody brilliance

Sequel a bit of a letdown, but still a "fun ride"

A movie franchise can only take us by surprise once, and by that measure, “Iron Man 2″ is a preordained letdown. But so much of what gave the first film its gas — the sass, the pizzazz, the ironic amusement of cast and script at the very idea of a rich, party-animal arms dealer (Robert Downey Jr.) remaking himself and the world with an ultimate-weapon armored suit — is still here. If the morality, the pathos of death, the tenderness of the would-be romance between Tony Stark/Iron Man and his assistant, Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow), are missing, “Iron Man 2″ is still a fun ride.

Mickey Rourke wrestled with Russian role for ‘Iron Man 2′

Mickey Rourke was jailed on a recent trip to Russia. That wouldn’t be news, except this time the hell-raising actor was doing research. His voluntary three-hour lockup in Moscow’s notorious Butyrka Prison was part of his preparation to play Ivan Vanko, an inventor-turned-convict-turned-bionic-bad-guy, in “Iron Man 2.”

‘Friday Night Lights’ continues to reinvent itself

High school may mark the beginning of adulthood, but in the fictitious town of Dillon, Texas, it’s primarily the time one is forced to abandon childish things, whether it’s the roar of adoring football fans or the notion that you’ll live happily ever after with the hottie from your homeroom.
