Jewelers Join Forces for Haiti

Jewelers of America (JA) and Jewelers for Children (JFC) are joining forces to raise money for both immediate and long-term relief efforts in Haiti, according to a press release. Members of the jewelry trade are encouraged to visit JFC’s website, JewelersforChildren.org , to contribute directly to the organization, which will immediately distribute the contributions to the Haiti relief funds: Direct Relief International Save the Children The American Red Cross International Response Fund.

Julianne Moore’s Golden Globe Emeralds

Well, jewelry hounds – we have another emerald earring red carpet jaw-dropper. Julianne Moore just showed on the 2010 Golden Globe red carpet with (what I assume) are the Bulgari emerald earrings she wears in their latest campaign. And, as I expected, they are even MORE magnificent than Angelina Jolie’s emerald earring stunners at the Oscars last year – if that’s possible.

Mariah, Mega Carats, and (Too) Many Cocktails

Diamond jewelry was out in full force at the Palm Springs International Film Festival yesterday, which makes sense since the Opening Night Gala was sponsored by Cartier. And while the likes of Dame Helen Mirren, Oscar winner-Marion Cotillard, and the next Anne Hathaway – the divine Anna Kendrick (run, don’t walk to see her in Up In the Air ), graced us with their presence and sported stunning jewelry with their couture – you have to leave it to Miss Mimi to really class up the joint. Mariah Carey, who was given the Breakthrough Actress Award for her performance in Precious , appeared on the red carpet in more diamond bling than a Liberace convention.

The auction will feature some 200 items, including a pair of Victorian-era diamond earrings ($20,000 est.), an Edwardian-era diamond and emerald bracelet , a 123-inch strand necklace of Baroque Akoya pearls, and various pricey watches, golf clubs, mink coats, cuff links and the like. The question remains: Who would want to own this stuff?
