Ministers visiting foreign countries must report to cabinet

BSS, Dhaka In line with a provision introduced in 1972, ministers visiting foreign countries to participate in seminars and symposiums shall have to report back to the Cabinet on the outcome of the visit. The cabinet on Monday reintroduced the provision, that came to a halt in course of time, at the initiative of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as it would help undertake and implement various development projects in an easier and updated way for reaching benefits to the people.

CIB backlogs to be removed soon: Atiur

Staff Reporter Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr Atiur Rahman yesterday said that he would remove the backlog of information availability from the Credit Information Bureau (CIB) by the next two months. “Bangladesh Bank is working to remove the backlogs and the CIB report will be available in the quickest possible time,” he said inaugurating a workshop on “Budget Reporting”, organised by the Economic Reporters’ Forum (ERF) at the National Press Club. Disclosing the plan of providing credit information digitally Dr Atiur said concerned persons would get their credit information from the CIB at home through logging-in in the Internet after the removal of backlogs.

Khaleda’s car not allowed in Cantonment, cops withdrawn

Staff Reporter BNP chairperson and leader of the opposition in Parliament Begum Khaleda Zia’s car, allocated by the government, was not allowed to drive into the cantonment towards her residence on Sunday night “The car allocated from the parliament to our party chairperson as leader of the opposition was not allowed in the cantonment on Sunday night to reach her residence,” Maruf Kamal Khan, press wing chief of BNP chairperson told journalists yesterday night at Khaleda’s Gulshan office in the capital.

RAJUK plots for AL MPs: Jote govt deprived them in the past

Pulack Ghatack The present government, which thinks the allotment of plots in Dhaka for MPs tantamounted to corruption by the erstwhile BNP-Jamaat government, will take fresh project to allot highly lucrative plots of lands at Gulshan, Banani, Purbachal and nearby areas for their MPs. State Minister for Housing and Works Adv Abdul Mannan Khan yesterday assured the lawmakers in the Jatiya Sangsad that Sheikh Hasina’s government would allot plot for them in a transparent way. He said that the Government had taken up a plan to build four satellite townships at the suburbs of the capital city Dhaka for resolving the housing problem.

Vitamin A capsule aftermath: 2 children die, govt forms probe body

UNB, Dhaka Another child died reportedly from complications after taking Vitamin-A capsule and deworming tablet in Munshiganj on Sunday night as several hundred children fell sick across the country following a nationwide nourishment drive. Piar Hossain of Ballalbari area in Sadar upazila of Munshiganj district claimed his daughter Priya Akhter, 6, fell sick after having the Vitamin-A capsule and deworming tablet and died on Sunday night. According to media reports, 11-year-old Habib, son of Nizam Fakir, died in Doulatdia area under Goalanda upazila in Rajbari district after taking the capsule and tablet early Sunday.

AL urges BNP to join JS session: Parliament to be focal point of all activities

BSS, Dhaka Awami League Central Working Committee (ALCWC) at a meeting here on Saturday urged opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) to join the parliament, saying they would make the House a platform doe all activities with participation of all political parties. Power generation from Sylhet plant uncertain

Shamim Jahangir Electricity generation from 90MW Sylhet Combine Cycle Power Plant (phase 2) at Fenchuganj has become uncertain due to conflict between state-run Power Development Board (PDB) and the Chinese construction company over exemption of tax and vat on equipment imported for the plant. The National Board of Revenue (NBR) imposed four per cent advance income tax (AIT) and four and a half per cent of VAT on the invoice of the construction company M/s Harbin Power Engineering Co Ltd (HPE).

3 more cohorts of Dawood held

Mamunur Rashid Detective Branch (DB) police yesterday picked up three more persons, alleged to be cohorts of mafia don Dawood Ibrahim, for interrogation. DB police gathered the names of these three persons enjoying patronage of some political leaders from Indian citizen Zahid Sheikh alias Muzahid who was arrested from a house in the capital a few days ago.After collecting their names from Muzahid DB police conducted raid at different parts of the capital and picked them for quizzing. Their antecedents were not disclosed.
